Woman Angrily Kills Man Who Tried To Rape Her [Graphic Image]

An unidentified suspected rapist has been killed in the Lekki area of Lagos State of Nigeria while attempting to rape a 22-year-old woman, Ifeoma Okechukwu. It was learnt that the incident happened on Monday, around 12.30pm, in Atlantic View Estate, Alpha Beach Road, Lekki.

Punch learnt that Okechukwu was on her menstrual period and had gone out to buy sanitary pads. The Imo State indigene was said to be on her way back home when she was accosted by the stranger.

She said:

“After buying the sanitary pads, I was going back home when I saw a man, who should be in his forties, standing at a corner. He approached me and ordered me to take him to my house.

“He put his hand into his pocket as if he wanted to bring out a weapon. He said he would kill me if I shouted.
When we got to the house, he said I should shut the door and I did. He said I should remove my clothes; and I started begging him, but he refused to listen. So I told him to let me get to the kitchen because I was cooking something and I would be back. I got a rod and hid it in my wrapper. I went back and moved slowly towards him, still begging, but he refused. He was taking off his clothes and wearing a condom when I used the rod to hit him in the head. I started screaming. And then I picked the phone and called my uncle.”
The victim’s uncle, who pleaded anonymity, told Punch Metro that he went to report the matter at the Ilasan Police Station after learning what had happened.

He said:

“I was not at home when the incident happened and her younger brother had also gone out. So, she was alone in the house and it was possible he had been monitoring her movement. When she called me and said what had happened, I left the office and went to the police station in Jakande Estate where I reported the matter.”
A police source told our correspondent that investigators found a pack of condoms on the deceased, including a phone without a SIM card.

The source added that since the incident happened, no one had shown up to claim the man’s corpse.
He said,

“He was about wearing the condom when the girl hit him on the head and he died. His mission was to rape her and steal from the house. He probably took advantage of her frail stature. We have got information that he was not alone. He belonged to a gang that has been terrorising Lekki residents for some time now. And that’s why since this incident, nobody knows his name and address, and none of his relatives has come forward to say they know him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, promised to call our correspondent back, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Okechukwu was however said to have been arrested and detained in police custody.
people who came to knowlege of the inccident made statements like she went too far by killing the man.

Jackie Chan Makes Pledge To Be A Better Father

Jackie Chan has vowed to become a better father in his first public comments since his son Jaycee was arrested on drugs charges.

Speaking at an event to promote his new film in Beijing, the martial arts expert urged the media not to speculate about his son’s case.

“I am always a father. I used to be an unqualified father. Now, after this event, I want to be a qualified father,” he told reporters.

The younger Chan is among a group of celebrities detained on drug charges during a crackdown in Beijing and other parts of China which has rounded up close to 8,000 people, according to the police.

Police said that they had found more than 100 grams of marijuana in Chan’s apartment in August, although the 32-year-old is accused of accommodating drug users, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment.

The charge is far more serious than that of drug taking.

Two other people detained in the same case were accused of selling drugs, while 23-year-old Taiwanese movie star Ko Chen-tung – also known as Kai Ko – was released after a few weeks in detention.

Ko now faces chargers of drug consumption in Taiwan.

The detention was a blow for Jackie Chan, who was appointed as an anti-drug ambassador in 2009.

He apologised for his son’s mistake in an online statement, but this was the first time he answered questions about his son’s case.

“I have said everything in my statement,” Chan said. “What you have is exactly the same as what I know.”

Chan also asked for the media to respect the family when publishing information about the case.

“If you publish some news aiming at catching the public’s attention, it could very easily hurt some people. It is alright to hurt me. I can bear it. But I am sincerely asking you here not to hurt Jaycee Chan’s mother, please.”

Chan’s new film Skiptrace sees him play a Hong Kong detective who chases a reckless gambler played by American actor Johnny Knoxville.

It is expected to premiere in China next year.

Speaking of Successfully Quitting Smoking

The study included 1 560 adult smokers in England who made at least one attempt to quit over six months.

About 45 percent used no aids to help them quit, while about 5 percent used prescription medication (nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion or varenicline) in combination with behavioural counselling.

Another 21 percent used prescription medication with brief advice, and about 30 percent used over-the-counter nicotine replacement products.
After six months, 23 percent of the participants were no longer smoking. Those who used the medication/counseling method were nearly three times more likely to quit than those who did not use medication or counseling.

Prescription meds and advice more effective

Taking a prescription medication with brief advice was also more effective than unaided attempts to quit.

However, smokers who used over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapy with no counseling had a reduced success rate, according to the study in the October issue of the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

“The results clearly show that the combination of prescription medication with behavioral support is the most successful method. More smokers should be guided towards these forms of treatment,” researcher Daniel Kotz, from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, said in a journal news release.

Smoking cessation is one of the most important health behaviour changes that physicians can encourage in their patients, Dr. J. Taylor Hays, director of the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Centre in Rochester, Minnesota, said in the news release.

“Hundreds of clinical trials that included thousands of patients have demonstrated the efficacy of combined behavioural therapy and pharmacotherapy for tobacco-dependence treatment.”

This study shows “that this approach can be translated to the real world and provide real benefit. This is a case where there is happily little difference between ‘theory and practice,’” Hays said.

“Health systems, hospitals, clinics, and providers now need to practice the well-established standard of care to save real lives in their real world.”
