And, somewhat surprisingly, it has to do with female MCs.
Who says an old Snoop Dogg can’t learn new tricks?
After beefing with Iggy Azalea over social media and then offering up a mea culpa, the Long Beach icon is taking things a step further by proclaiming that female rappers don’t get the credit they deserve.
“That female emcees don’t get the respect that they deserve,” Snoop said on The D.L. Hughley Show when asked was disappointed him the most about the rap game today. “It’s more about what she look like then what she sound like.”
The rapper formerly known as Snoop Lion also opined on why he’s managed to stay relevant for as long as he has.
“I treat everybody with love and eye to eye,” Snoop said. “That’s why they call me ‘Uncle Snoop’ now instead of ‘just some old rapper.’ I always treated them with love and respect. No matter how big he was I always looked at him eye to eye. The younger generation could always appreciate me. I love hip hop.”
The D-O double G’s newest revelations are a far cry from the comments he made about the “Fancy” MC last month.
“Say, bitch, you’re f–king with the wrong n—a, and your n—a better check you before I do,” Snoop said in a video he posted on Instagram. “You funky bitch. Yeah, you. F–king c—.”
At the behest of longtime friend T.I., Snoop squashed the beef with Iggy and has since moved on to focusing on his new album, which is being produced entirely by Pharrell Williams.
“I just feel like he is really on right now and it was the right time to do the project, “ Snoop said.
Snoop’s yet-to-be-titled LP is scheduled to drop on January 15 on Skateboard P’s label, I Am Other, in a joint venture with Columbia.
