Ben Affleck Knows Why Batfleck Haters Hate

It’s ‘Affleck V Trolls: Dawn of the Internet.’

Did you get really mad when Ben Affleck was cast as the Dark Knight in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice“? Well, according to the actor, that’s a good thing.

Affleck recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the internet’s reaction to him joining the cast of Zack Snyder’s not-quite-a Justice League movie, and don’t worry. He knew it was coming.

“Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, ‘Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions,’” Affleck said. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I wouldn’t have taken the part if I didn’t trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking.”

Part of what gave Affleck the confidence was the script from his “Argo” writer Chris Terrio, Snyder’s strong visual style, and an understanding that this kind of criticism comes with the territory. He even compared it to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie and the backlash around Jamie Dornan’s casting.

Ultimately, it’s a good thing though. It means people care.

“There are the Greek myths and these are the American myths. The American myths are these superheroes,” Affleck said. “People care about ‘em a lot. And it’s incumbent on you to do a good job and make it as excellent as you possibly can. At the end of the day, the movie’s all that matters.”

You hear that, internet? Ben Affleck says keep that hate coming…. I think.
